I was a stay-at-home mom and many times I felt overwhelmed. I felt that my sole purpose in life was to cook, clean, and take care of children. I just knew that the statement “Cleanliness is next to Godliness” was a scripture in the Bible (it’s not, but it’s a great saying). Cleanliness means more than just keeping our bodies washed and our homes clean. God wants everything about us to reflect His “cleanliness,” His goodness.
When my children were growing up, my husband and I were very intentional about what we allowed to enter our children’s ears, eyes, and spirit! To date, we still cringe when certain words are said in our presence and especially around our little kisses. Protect and guard your heart, mind, and spirit. Garbage in, garbage out; love in, love out…you continue the list. I don’t like to be around negativity. It’s inevitable, but when I’m around things that do not please God, I don’t want to be comfortable in that atmosphere and I don’t want that atmosphere to be comfortable around me!
The apostle Paul alluded to this numerous times:
“Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.” Ephesians 4:29
“But among you there must not be even a hint of sexual immorality, or of any kind of impurity, or of greed, because these are improper for God’s holy people. Nor should there be obscenity, foolish talk, or coarse joking, which are out of place, but rather thanksgiving.” Ephesians 5:3, 4
I am seeing more and more cussing, potty-mouth Christians these days and it saddens me.
Life and death are in our tongues. We speak both life and death, knowingly and unknowingly! So, let’s clean house (our temple) by cleaning and purifying our minds, environment,s and our language.
Are you dripping hate or love? Malice or peace? Discord or harmony? Division or inclusion?
I love a well-kept, clean house, I sleep better and relax better. I am very intentional with showing my kisses how to clean properly. It is equally important, if not more, to teach them how to clean up their words. Color them with love & season them with flavorful fillings (Read-Colossians 3:8).
As you mature, your speech should improve and build up, not curse and tear down or slander. It’s critical that we watch what we say and how we say it (Read Colossians 4:6).
So, what do we do after we’ve done and/or said something contrary to the word of God or against another individual?
