Keep Dancing

Emotionally spent. Physically challenged. Flat out tired! Have you ever been there? Not knowing how ends will meet, you’ve been diligent and faithful, yet things are happening at a snail’s pace? Did God press pause and forget to come back and press play? You are lost in the everyday mundaneness. You’re tired of thinking and analyzing, and just downright have zero motivation. Let me mute you for a moment and silence the enemy’s voice. Read on and let this permeate your mind and spirit.

It’s good to take some time out. But then it’s time to jump back into the game. Don’t think that you’re not spiritual, you are! Don’t believe that lie. When you pour out constantly you need a refilling. Recently I decided to put my adult card down and refill by embracing my inner child!

I watch my oldest grand kiss every day. Like clockwork, when she wakes up each morning she asks, “What is today? What do we do on Mondays?” That day I told her, whatever you want to do, let’s do it! She immediately went to the closet and picked out her outfit for the day. Then she said, “Let’s go to the mall” (that’s my baby!). While at the mall, I watched her dance and twirl in front of strangers, with not a care in the world. She told me to sit down and watch her dance. She didn’t pay attention to anyone: not crying babies, not the people walking past her…she stayed in the moment and danced. After she was done, she said, “Now you dance, grandma.” I said, “Braelyn I can’t do that in front of all of these people and I can’t move like that.” Her response? “Why not? Yes, you can grandma, just get up and try! You can do what you say you can do, look at me, I will show you how!” She proceeded to dance and twirl even more and as I was filming her, I thought, “Yes, I can do it baby girl!” I could block out the world and become as innocent and free as she was, plus I couldn’t let her down. She came over and offered another pep talk which motivated me to get up and dance. I did! I did it! Yep, my fully grown, 52-year-old self danced and twirled while she cheered me on. “Yes grandma, you got it! You look so beautiful. I knew you could do it!” When I was done, she got up, hugged me and told me how proud she was of me. She and I walked away giggling, holding each other’s hand and of course she wanted me to then take her to the American doll store. We were in that store for nearly three hours. I did whatever she said: we played, had lunch and played some more. It was so refreshing. When we sat down to pray over our food, she asked me if she could pray. And listen, that girl PRAYED! She prayed for our food, she prayed and thanked God that He allowed me to dance with her, she prayed for the people who wanted dolls but could not have them because mommy says they cost too much (*giggles*).  I just love her pure innocence and faith.

Do you ever feel like you overthink things in life? Granted, we can’t play all day every day, but don’t you think you need to let your hair down sometimes, become as little children, and give it all over to God? Let Him figure out how everything is going to get done. I pray that this story of childlike freedom will motivate you to let life go for just 24 hours. Release the stress, dance, do what makes you happy, and just enjoy life. Be thankful for the little things because they really are important. Let them motivate you to keep dancing even when life is hard. Silence the noise and mute real-life problems; instead, focus on what’s right in front of you. Just dance.

And THAT is why I tap dance. It’s an opportunity to let my inner child come out and play!

  2. Aw, both of you upholding
    1 Timothy 4:12

“You are young, but do not let anyone treat you as if you were not important. Be an example to show the believers how they should live. Show them with your words, with the way you live, with your love, with your faith, and with your pure life.”
