I QUIT

I gave my one-day notice, I was over it! I was tired of succumbing to the way I was being treated! I gave 100 percent, came in early, skipped lunch breaks, and strategized. Yet I was still disrespected and called a God snob (who even uses that term in a corporate environment). I was so over my supervisor. I walked into the office, not even planning to quit, but my manager was always crabby and on edge. I had just received a call that someone in the family died and I was trying to hold back the tears. I shared the news only for her to say, “Well, I hope the service is on the weekend because we have this huge project to complete.” How insensitive! Just a few weeks prior she was given news of a missing family member and I was there, going above and beyond to provide comfort and support. Well I’d had enough! I resigned on the spot! No two-week notice, I wished I’d had a cake to sit on her desk that simply said, “I quit.”

When we have tried to do what is right and help others, life seems unfair. It can feel as though carelessness and sinful behavior get rewarded, while kindness goes unnoticed (read Psalm 73).

God does pay attention; He sees our faithfulness. You may feel like the wicked are prospering while you continue to accept unfair things. Even when we don’t understand why we are stuck in a job that we can’t stand, we must remember God is still at work around us and through us. When our good works go unnoticed by others, God sees. Don’t quit before your time!

I ended up going back to work the next day; my supervisor was still shocked that I’d resigned and asked if there was anything she could do for me to change my mind and stay. Little did she know, when I went home the previous day and told my husband I quit my job, he calmly asked, “Did God tell you to quit?” I rolled my eyes so hard at him because during my ride home I felt happy, but I knew I hadn’t consulted with God. I returned the next day to tell my manager I’d reacted out of emotion and I wanted to take back my resignation. She became nice for almost two days, then she was back to her normal “spawn of Satan” self, but I had to recognize that I was on an assignment and God would close that door when He wanted to.

If we don’t quit or give up, there could be a lesson in the wilderness. Just hold tight, keep the faith and have courage to stand in the face of adversity. In God’s time, He will provide a harvest.

  1. God, please keep me patient in my affliction! I am so glad God has the final say, when it seems like ‘no good deed goes unpunished.’

    Yes!!! The harvest is coming.
Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.

  3. You have no clue how I was about to go to work this morning and resign with no backup plan. I think I need to commit it to prayer! It’s so frustrating when you have to wake up and go somewhere where you feel so unappreciated! Thank you for your transparency!

  4. This reminds me of the scripture not to be weary and at the appropriate time I will be rewarded. Thank you! I needed to read this today!

  5. That was so real and raw! Thank you for helping me to remember my life and experiences are in His hand!
