Covid Blessings

We’ve begun to lose track of how many weeks we’ve been in quarantine but we’re all still reeling from the impact of Covid-19.  Some are leaning closer to their faith while cynics are accusing God for the outbreak. One thing we must understand is that we will continue to have viruses and plagues until God decides to take us out of this sin sick world. Cancer will continue to infect, diabetes will still be around, bad things will still happen. Jesus warned us: “I have told you these things so that in me you may have peace. In the world you have trouble and suffering but take courage — I have conquered the world.” (John 16:33)

Despite the terrible, I want to take today to focus on the good that has come out of this craziness, things I’ve witnessed with my own eyes!

· Emails/texts offering to sponsor a 2020 graduate

· Churches providing financial support, helping their members as well as nonmembers

· Closed businesses still paying their employees

· Generous establishments offering services for free or at greatly reduced prices

· People gathering on their porches at an appointed time to sing together

· A company starting a fund to help others in their industry who are suffering financial hardship

· Stimulus checks

· People randomly leaving checks and cash in folks’ mailboxes

· Quality time being spent as a family when previously that may not have been an option

· Creditors suspending payments, some up to six months

· Many random acts of kindness

We see evil in the world because people make bad choices. But we also see good when people make good choices. God uses both.

Joseph’s brothers made a bad choice by selling their brother into slavery. Joseph chose to believe God was with him and leaned into his faith. God took the awful thing his brothers did and not only saved the nation of Israel but many other nations as well. Joseph enlightened his brothers when he proclaimed, “You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good to accomplish what is now being done, the saving of many lives!”

Yes, we are enduring perilous times. But every morning we get a chance to shine bright and showcase God’s grace and mercy. Families are rallying to support the elderly when, previously, they may have been lost in the hustle of life: individuals are dropping off food, visiting through windows and even stores have adjusted their policies to accommodate this at-risk segment of the population. People are slowing down, reflecting and learning to look at their neighbors a new way. All over the world people are waking up to a new reality. We are realizing how little control we really have and being reminded of what really matters while learning to love hard and forgive more.

So, please see the good in all of this. Yes, there is fear but there does not have to be hate. Yes, there is isolation but there does not have to be loneliness. Yes, there is frenzy but there does not have to be malice. Yes, there is physical sickness but there does not have to be disease of the soul. Yes, there is even death but there can always be a rebirth of love.

Take a deep breath. Listen to the birds singing. Spring is here. Open the windows of your soul and embrace all the good.

  1. This is great perspective. There’s still a lot of good to be found, despite the despair.

  2. The birds wake me up every morning and it’s a constant reminder that even though we are in this situation there is just so much to be thankful for! Most days during this quarantine I find myself seeing and hearing all of the bad, it has caused so much anxiety! I have to be intentional about getting dressed and seeing the good in all of this. Mad struggle but it’s something that I must push through the noise and be reminded that God is in full control!

  3. I made a conscious decision to limit my daily news watching . Especially when most of the reports are either false, or negative. You dont know truth from fiction. And the Government will never allow us to know where this REALLY came from. Instead I just forcus on Gods promise to never leave or forsake me. I celebrate each day of renewed faith, strength and protection because for those of us that Love the Lord know, no matter what happens around us, He has equipped us with all we need weather every storm or attack against us!

Today when I woke up, I thanked my God for still being in the land of the living. I made a conscious effort to get dressed for work as if I was going out, then I came down stairs to my make shift office and started my day. This is a refreshing reminder that God is good, God is in control and God will bring us through. I choose to push through remembering that God has got me. Thank you Lady Patrice, have a blessed day.

Awesome revelation — the reality of it all! And, we know that God will ALWAYS take care of His own — FAITH over FEAR!! It works for us! 🙏🏽🙏🏽 🙌🏽🎉 👏🏽👏🏽 ♥️🥰

  6. So true! It has been very easy to see the disheartening parts of this pandemic. It is my natural bend. There have been those very beautiful things that have happened.

  7. Amen!!! I agree. This is an insightful perspective. My daughter is a 2020 MBA graduate from FAMU. Although the formal ceremonies were cancelled. We still thank God and CELEBRATED this accomplishment as we do with all of the blessings that God gives us each day. Each morning I am intentional in giving thanks to God for allowing me to see a new day. I could dwell on the negative. However, I choose to highlight the positive.

  8. Amen! Great word. Thanks for outlining the love of God shown in obedience to serve one another, in this season. That’s the cure. Love is contagious.
    Yes, we are most assuredly
    Covered despite covid.

Thanks so much for this because this is so true, I have never seen so much preaching, bible studies, gospel concerts and words of encouragement on social media ever. We have the opportunity to eat spiritual food real good. To be thankful to be among the living everyday is proof enough

  10. Amen, there is some good! I’m appreciating the “still” in it all. I’m enjoying time with my family even though we’re all either working or attending school from home (thankful to still have jobs). Just reflecting and absorbing it all, praying for healing and protection, knowing that God is bringing about good in all of this.
