A Time To Rest

“Then Jesus said, “Let’s go off by ourselves to a quiet place and rest awhile.” Mark 6:31

I don’t set resolutions, but I do set goals. This year I want so many things to be different from last year, so I decided to do something dramatically different. I put myself on a sabbatical. Busyness has always been a huge part of my life but recently I found myself feeling depleted! I know this is not God’s best for my life, so I decided to stop working for the first three months of the year and to forego stressful assignments. Last year, the hustle was intense which left me mentally, physically, emotionally and spiritually drained.

I’ve had many health challenges over the years and the stress of 2019 pushed my body into more serious health issues. Instead of running myself ragged, I have taken time to work on myself. I am now going to a holistic doctor and I’m extremely happy with the progress I’ve seen in such a short period of time.

My husband asked me if I wanted to join him in reading through the Bible in three months. It’s been so rich and full and I’m loving the time spent in God’s word. I’m already off the reading plan because it’s so good that I don’t want to stop. Reading, studying and being in the presence of God has been super amazing since I’ve cut out many of my distractions! I’m also reading more books to deepen and broaden myself spiritually and holistically.

I would encourage you to examine your life. What do you need to cut back on to become a better you? I would challenge you to make the change. Yours may not be as drastic as my sabbatical but sometimes dramatic changes are necessary. Go on a spiritual fast, I know that you will hear from God when you deny yourself.

May this year bring you peace of mind and may you live out your life’s mission without so many unnecessary distractions. That’s my goal for 2020.

  1. Good morning and Happy New Year. We have to take care of our “Whole”selves. Spirit, body and mind. So happy to hear you are doing that for your self this year.

  4. You have no clue how this has blessed me this morning. You always share an on time word. I have been missing your post and now I see why you don’t post as often, you need to take care of yourself. You’ve encouraged me to slow down and rest. God bless you during your resting time! Praying for your health as well.
